"Bush Bucks" Stimulus Checks Going To Pay Back Taxes |
|
Thousands of Georgians are not getting as much on their government
stimulus checks as they first thought.
The state Department of Revenue has intercepted at least part of 16-thousand stimulus payments because the recipients owe back state taxes. So far, the state has collected over four-and-a-half-million dollars worth of stimulus money. Only New York has collected more in back taxes from the government payouts. Georgia teamed up with the federal offset system around five years ago so it could get all or part of federal tax refunds if a resident owed back state taxes. The state has collected over 122-million dollars since the program
started. |
