Fortunately, the sirens worked well enough to get a lot of people to safety.  Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency Director Johnny Wingers says dozens, maybe hundreds, of lives were saved because of the early warning. 

Wingers says officials are checking the sirens to see what must be done to fix them.
