| After hesitating for two days, central
Georgia congressional candidate Rick Goddard is attacking
Democratic Rep. Jim Marshall for his vote in favor of the $700
billion bailout package that the House shot down Monday.
But Georgia's two Republican senators are standing on
Marshall's side, and Marshall's campaign says Goddard held off on
taking a position so he could take a poll on the issue.
Marshall was among just two Georgia House members to support
the bailout. He acknowledged that the unpopular vote could
jeopardize his political future but said he feared the economy
would freeze up without it.
Goddard's campaign issued its first statement on Marshall's
vote shortly before midnight Tuesday. The Republican accuses
Marshall of acting recklessly with tax dollars.
