Cell Phone Deal Turns Into Armed Robbery Attempt

The Macon Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred at the Macon Mall late Friday night. 

Police say 25 year old Yi Huang had agreed to meet 25-year old Cedric Jamaal Dennard of Dry Branch to purchase a cell phone from him. When the two walked out to the parking lot to get the phone, the suspect pulled a handgun on Huang and demanded his wallet. The two got into a struggle and Huang was able get control of the weapon. Dennard took of running back towards the Mall. 

During this time Officers working off duty for the Macon Mall and Mall Security were alerted that there was a disturbance going on, and were able to place the suspect into custody.

Dennard is charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
