The stay of execution for Georgia inmate Troy Davis remains in
effect as his fate awaits a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Davis' appeal is not listed on the docket for oral arguments
this week. The most likely date for his case to arise is in a
conference by the Supreme Court justices scheduled for Friday.
Davis, who was convicted of the 1989 murder of Savannah police
Officer Mark McPhail, wants a judge to grant him a new hearing
based on witnesses recanting testimony they gave against him
during his trial.
The Supreme Court issued the stay Sept. 23 just before Davis
was to be put to death.
There were expectations that the court would render a decision
in the case on Monday, but there was none.
