FEMA Planning To Hold Back Macon Tornado Damage Funds

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has informed the city of Macon that $130,000 dollars of funds earmarked for cleanup from the Mothers' Day tornados will be withheld.

Interim Chief Administration Officer Mike Anthony says FEMA claims they are holding back the money because the city did not properly document federal funds it was given following the Flood of 1994 and has wanted the money back.

FEMA's decision comes as the city is dealing with another issue where the federal government wants money reimbursed because no city records can account for it. In that instance, close to one million dollars was granted to the city to fund after-school community programs, however over $300,000 dollars has gone unaccounted for and the federal government is threatening a lawsuit to get reimbursed.
