Macon Mall Gang Activity E-Mail Believed A Hoax

The Macon Police Department tells NewsTalk 940 it has received numerous phone calls and e-mails in reference to a forwarded e-mail that has been going around, warning of possible gang activity at the Macon Mall. The Department has been tracing this from person to person trying to find out where it originated and if there is any evidence to substantiate this rumor.

Supposedly this e-mail was started by a Macon Police Officer telling this to his mother, and then she told her sister, who in turn, told someone else, who then sent out an e-mail.

At the cost of numerous manpower hours, Macon Police say, so far, no one can be located to bring forth any information other than it was just an e-mail forwarded to them. The Macon Police Department Gang Unit continues to monitor the gang activity, but has come across no information to show that this is anything other than a hoax.

The Macon Police Department and the Macon Mall Security have met, and have a cooperative action plan in place, should one be needed.

The Macon Police Department is urging shoppers not to react to any e-mail or hoax of this type, but advise citizens to always take precautions when out, especially during the evening. Tips from Macon Police include 1) Try to always shop with others 2) Notify police of any  suspicious activity 3) Stay alert of your surroundings and 4) Try to park in lighted areas near the store

While the Macon Police Department wants you to be cautious, we ask that you not overreact to and e-mail or hoax that is being forwarded along.
