While on tour in Europe, Jeff Tweedy took a quiet moment to share something personal with fans.
The Wilco frontman posted a stripped-down acoustic cover of “Love Takes Miles,” a song written by Cameron Winter, to his Substack newsletter, Starship Casual. He recorded the track in Paris and released it around Valentine’s Day, dedicating it to his wife, Susie Tweedy.
In his note to subscribers, Tweedy explained why the song hit home. He wrote that it feels “very true” about how love actually works. Not the flashy version. The real one. The kind that builds over time. “The real love takes a lot of miles, a lot of time,” he shared, describing the steady kind of partnership that grows stronger with experience.
“Love Takes Miles” originally appeared on Winter’s 2024 solo debut, Heavy Metal. Since its release, the album has helped establish Winter as one of the more compelling young voices in indie rock, separate from his work with Geese.
Tweedy has long been known for championing new songwriters, and this cover continues that tradition. It also shows how songs can travel across generations. A veteran artist on tour in Europe finds meaning in a younger musician’s words. He records it in a hotel room in Paris. Then he shares it with the world.
