British rapper Ghetts has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a fatal hit-and-run that killed a university student in London. The sentence was handed down at the Old Bailey after the artist admitted responsibility for the crash that took place in October 2025.
Court proceedings established that Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, was driving a BMW M5 through Ilford in northeast London while over the legal alcohol limit. Prosecutors told the court he ran multiple red lights and was traveling at excessive speed before striking 20-year-old Nepalese student Yubin Tamang as he crossed the road.
Authorities said the driver left the scene without stopping to assist the victim. Tamang later died from his injuries.
During sentencing, the court heard statements from Tamang’s family describing the loss of their only child. Clarke-Samuel pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, and a letter expressing remorse was read in court.
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a 17-year driving ban.
