Lionsgate is already looking beyond the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, with studio leadership saying a follow-up film is moving in a promising direction.
During a recent studio update, Lionsgate motion picture chair Adam Fogelson said the company is “really excited” about the progress being made on a possible sequel to Michael. He said the first film does not cover every major part of Jackson’s life or career, leaving more story and music to explore.
Fogelson also said a significant amount of footage that could be used for a second movie was already shot during production on the first film. His estimate placed that material at roughly 25% to 30% of a potential sequel.
The first Michael film is set to focus on the life and career of one of the most commercially successful entertainers in pop history. A second installment would likely give the studio more room to cover later chapters of Jackson’s story, though full details have not been announced.
